The author was a career Naval Officer who was the brother of Senator John Slidell of Louisiana and also the brother of Thomas Slidell, Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court. His sister Jane was married to Commodore Mathew Perry. The books are in Good condition with bumped corners and fraying at the ends of the spines but are intact with no tears, no foxing and very clean text.
