Earnest Nister (1841-1906) was an illustrator of children's books and paper ephemera such as greeting cards and calendars. He was born in Darmstadt, Germany and later moved his office to Nuremberg with an office also in London. In 1888 he began a relationship with E. P. Dutton Publishing Company of Boston and later New York. This little book was published sometime in the 1890's originating in Nurenberg for distribution in America by E. P. Dutton. The poems are by noted poets, Longfellow, Blanchard and Mackay. The booklet measures 4 1/2" x 5", bound with gilded string and has gilt fore-edges. It is in Fine condition.
