Born May 22, 1809 in Attakapas, Louisiana. Graduated from Harvard in 1829, studied law and was admitted to the bar in New Orleans where he practiced law before returning to St. Martinville where he continued his law practice from 1835-1842. He was elected to Congress and served from 1844 to 1851. He became the attorney general of Louisiana 1854 and served to 1856. He died in New Orleans in 1866.
