Lillian Hellman, American playwright, was born in New Orleans on June 20, 1906 and died in Vinyard Haven, Massachusetts on June 30, 1984. She wrote powerful, realistic plays that made her one of America's leading dramatists. Many of her plays reflected her outspoken, political and social views.
